Heal The Soul with the Exotic Sounds of Courtney Jaye

In this edition of “MOMENT OF ZEN” allow us to introduce you to Miss Courtney Jaye!  I first discovered Courtney back in 2005 with her debut studio album release Traveling Light. While working in the radio music industry, I had the pleasure of listening to a live acoustic promo set she performed for her studio release and I was instantly a fan.  We featured one of her tracks on the 1st Moment of Zen playlist..click here if you missed it.Courtney_Jaye

Her sound is uniquely her own, made up of a southern soulful rock vibe with the undertones of old Nashville and a bit of her own influences from her time living in Hawaii. Her eclectic blend of musical stylings, accompanied with a truly angelic voice, has us anticipating her new album “Love and Forgiveness” due out sometime early 2012.

We’ve decided to introduce you to this artist as she inspires everything Moment of Zen embodies…..Healing the Soul back into a positive place.

Courtney’s new album “Love and Forgiveness” is due out soon this year, so make sure you stay connected for updates on her twitter and Facebook Music Page...CLICK LIKE!

We had the absolute pleasure of catching up with the soulful Nashville singer for a short Q&A chat about her upcoming album, her musical inspiration, and some sources she draws from daily to help live a happy, healthy, and positive life. Here’s what she had to say….

LifeSushi: So tell us about the upcoming album….

Courtney: Mike Wrucke produced the album and I owe all credit to him for helping to make this album really come to life in a big way. (Mike Wrucke is Miranda Lambert’s 2010 CMA Album of the Year Winning Producer). “Love and Forgiveness” has, what I feel is a modern sound inspired by some of my favorite artists of the 70's...like Dolly Parton, Carole King, The Band, and Linda Ronstadt.

LifeSushi: Dolly Parton? (overly excited) We love Dolly Parton!

Courtney: She's wonderful. I like to live by the mantra WWDD (What Would Dolly Do?) Dolly has always been a woman I admire. Being a female in  country music back in the 70s wasn’t always the easiest of career paths in a male dominated industry, but Dolly always managed and still manages to keep a smile on her face and a positive spin on everything. She always projects a very positive energy in her life and her work. I try to be more like her where I can.

LifeSushi: What are some things that you practice in your daily life to draw positive inspiration from?

Courtney: I have a very solid Spiritual foundation that really keeps me on a positive track and from which I pull strength from. I love the outdoors and try to keep in touch with nature through hiking. I also practice Kundalini yoga which really focuses on strengthening the core and promotes an all around positive flow of energy. Yoga really is a positive science, once you get into it.  It makes your mind, heart, and gut stronger.

LifeSushi: If you had any advice for those women yearning to follow their passion but afraid to get out of their comfort zone, what advice would you give them?

Courtney: I really try to think about the end of my life (as dark as that may sound) and imagine myself looking back and asking, “do you have something you regret you never did?” I never want to regret out of fear. If I’m guided to do something I just do it. Anything can be accomplished by focusing the energy on it and by not listening to everyone else that may be telling you otherwise.

Sometimes the people who are closest to you (friends and family) can be the ones telling you not to go after your passion because they are just not used to seeing that side of you and that makes them uncomfortable. I say…try not to end up at that place when you are older and its too late to do anything about your dream or passion. Life if too short, truly. Just go for it.

LifeSushi: What are your go to tracks to get you back into a positive mind set and energized?

Courtney: Right now I love turning my Ipod on shuffle and letting it play. It is just bizarre how it lines up with my day and the moment and the mood I’m in. It really is like its in sync with where I am at that particular moment.

I’m also really shaped by country music, so I would say the classic women of Country are who I’m always drawn to.

LifeSushi: We love discovering new artists. Who are you listening to now?

Courtney: Jeff the Brotherhood, Heartless Bastards, Dawes & Kathleen Edwards to name a few. I've been playing the new Kathleen Edwards every morning, it's gorgeous

LifeSushi: This is a tough one...Who is your favorite musician?

Courtney: Ahhh..I have so many. I will say I try and stick with my Country roots the most and the women of country I admire like…Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, & Skeeter Davis.

Life Sushi: What websites do you surf daily / weekly?

Courtney:Two of my favorites are www.Captainsdead.com (music site)and http://www.aquariumdrunkard.com/ (music site)

LifeSushi: What advice would you now give your 20 year old self:

Courtney: Don’t worry….“It gets better.”

LifeSushi: We try not to take ourselves to seriously at LifeSushi and we believe laughter really is life’s best medicine. Who's your favorite comedian right now?

Courtney: I’m LOVING the girls of birdcloud right now. They are an up and coming female comedic music duo out of Nashville. Check them out…hipster girls who write their own stuff and also play instruments. HILARIOUS! Here’s a link to some of their most recent YouTube greats. Watch out for these ladies.

LifeSushi: Who is a female that you look up to or admire?

Courtney: My mother…I cant imagine my life without her love and support.

We hope you are inspired and motivated to get out and start L-I-V-I-N as much as we are after visiting with Courtney! She is living the life and has had no regrets along the way! We cant wait to hear more out this dynamic lady! Stay tuned her for a follow up before her album is released.

So, here ya go! Here is your Moment of Zen a track off of Miss Courtney Jaye’s much anticipated new album.
