The Healthy Life Trifecta

body1Healthy mind, healthy body, healthy life!  It sounds like an ancient proverb from Confucius’ day, but its just a simple truth.  We like to call it the “Healthy Life Trifecta” and it’s probably the most important factor to getting your life, mind and body healthy & in balance!
Have you ever noticed a week where you have skipped a workout? You start to feel sluggish, your mind might not be as sharp or clear. Or what about a week where you were just not keeping up with good eating habits?  Fast food was fueling you through the week, and after a few days you noticed you were dragging through the hours of the day and just not sleeping great at night.
Its not rocket science! When we are not fueling our bodies with the right foods or not giving it a little rev of the engine by way of exercise, your body starts to feel sluggish and your mind shortly after joins the pity party.
Why is this you ask? It’s really quite simple…. Mind and Body are directly related. When you neglect one the other suffesr.  Not to worry, just by being aware of this simple fact you are ahead of the curve. We’ll show you that its easy to keep it all in balance and insure that your make your mental and emotional performance soar by just a few easy tricks!

The Healthy Life Trifecta is really no secret, we’ve been hearing about it for years, you just might have never really sat down and connected the dots. In fact, most common ailments plaguing our society in alarming numbers like depression,  obesity, diabetes, and heart disease can be prevented by simply making some healthy choices lead by proper nutrition and a little exercise!

Here are some quick tricks to help Keep Your Healthy Life Trifecta in Check:

1. Fuel your body often and with the right foods. From the time we wake up to the time we go to sleep are bodies are craving the foods that keep our metabolism reving and our energy levels constant.  It’s just like putting wood on a fire…. feed your body people! It’s actually the key to keeping the pounds away as well! We recommend 5 small meals a day. Start your day off with a healthy breakfast combined with lean protein, healthy fats, and healthy low glycemic carbs, like a steel cut oatmeal w/fresh berries and egg whites.  2 hours later grab a healthy snack like cottage cheese. For lunch make sure you are once again sticking to to healthy lunch packed with lean protein, healthy fats, and low glycemic carbs….try grilled chicken with a side of vegis and brown rice. Don’t forget your afternoon healthy snack…we love grabbing a low fat Greek Yogurt like Fage with some fresh berries. For Dinner, make sure you are getting a balanced healthy meal with a lower carb content. An easy trick…cook with more vegetables at dinner and reduce the complex carbs. Here’s an example of average days eating schedule:
8am – Breakfast
10am – Snack
12pm -  Lunch
2 or 3pm – Snack
6pm -  Dinner
Try to stick to this schedule for 7 days and we promise you’ll be a believer. Your energy levels will stay consistent throughout the day, you’ll be more productive, and you’ll sleep better through the night.

2.  Exercise!! Release those endorphins GURLLZZ!! Its time to get movin! Exercise increases the levels of soothing brain chemicals like serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine.
You will be amazed what a little exercise can do to your mental state after a stressful day. It’s a definite mind changer. Just a quick 30 minute run, jog, yoga class, or weight training session is a quick fix for a down in the dumps mood.
Make exercise a regular part of your weekly routine and you’ll see even greater benefits like weight Loss, increased muscle tone, decreased risk of medical problems, and relief from that funky state of mind you might be in. Its nature’s medicine…just get moving!

3.  Feed your brain by giving it a little positive mental stimulation. It’s important to not only exercise the body but exercise the mind as well. The hustle and bustle of our every day lives has us pulled in so many directions that we often tend to neglect ourselves in so many areas. Just as important as it is for us to exercise our bodies its is imperative to exercise your mind! It only takes 30 minutes a few times a week and you don’t even have to break a sweat! Pick up a book, engage in a hobby that makes you focus and use that creative side of the brain like painting or writing. Start a journal and get busy exercising that beautiful mind of yours.

So there ya go, you are now in the know! Take the steps in your life to make sure you are practicing the Healthy Life Trifecta. Eat well & often, exercise, and stimulate that brain of yours. You’ll see how quickly your overall emotional, physical, and mental state will change for the better!
